Basic Instrument Flying Module

Basic Instrument Flying Module

The Basic Instrument Flying Module (BIFM) is a comprehensive training program tailored for pilots seeking proficiency in instrument flight. This course covers crucial aspects like instrument interpretation, attitude instrument flying, navigation techniques, and emergency protocols. Upon completion, pilots will confidently navigate through adverse weather conditions and low visibility scenarios, ensuring safe and proficient flight operations.

Flight Training

The Basic Instrument Flying Module (BIFM) requires 5 hours on an FNPT II simulator and 5 hours in a Piper aircraft, each with distinct objectives:

  • FNPT II Simulator (5 hours): Focus on mastering instrument interpretation, practicing standard and non-standard IFR procedures, and handling emergency scenarios in a controlled environment. This includes tasks like precision approaches, recovery from unusual attitudes, and system failure simulations.
  • Piper Aircraft (5 hours): Apply simulator-learned skills to real-world flying. This involves hands-on experience in attitude instrument flying, navigation using onboard instruments, and managing real-time weather or visibility challenges.

Together, these sessions ensure pilots build confidence and competence in instrument flight operations.

Pre Entry Requirements

  • 18 years and over
  • Private Pilot License Holder
  • 50 hours cross country as Pilot in Command
  • Valid Class 2 Medical Certificate issued by CAD-TM approved Medical Examiner
